UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN The University of New Haven was founded in 1920 and is accredited as a general-purpose institution by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. A number of graduate classes are held at several off-campus locations across the state as well as in California and Virginia. Most graduate classes are held in the early evening to accommodate the schedules of both part-time and full-time students. Many students are from Connecticut, but each year an increasing number come from other states and many other countries. The graduate student body of about 1,900 ranges from recent college graduates to professionals with several years of experience in their fields. About 60 percent of the graduate students are women, about 12 percent receive some sort of financial aid, approximately 14 percent are international students, and about 12 percent are members of minority groups. Graduates are employed in government service, college and university teaching, private agencies, and business. UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT The University of Bridgeport (UB), founded in 1927, is one of America's most internationally diverse campuses. NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY New York Institute of Technology is a private coeducational institution of higher learning. Founded in 1955, the college now enrolls 10,000 students at its three campuses. NYIT is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. AMERİKAN YÜKSEK ÖĞRENİM SİSTEMİ

Amerikan Yüksek öðretim kurumlarý, ülkemizdekinden farklý olarak tek bir merkezden yönetilmezler. Federal bakanlýk, eyaletlerin ihtiyaç duyacaðý yüksek öðrenim kurumlarý hakkýnda genel standartlarý belirler. Bunun dýþýnda her bir eyalet bünyesinde üniversiteler ve kolejler kendi özerk yapýlarý içinde eðitim ve öðretim faaliyetlerini yürütürler. Yüksek öðrenim kurumlarýnda (university, college, community college, institute of technology) çeþitli fakülte ve bölümlerde, lisans (BA) Mastýr (MA, MSc) ve Doktora (PhD) dereceleri verilir.

Idari yapýlarýna göre eyalet üniversiteleri ve özel vakýf üniversiteleri mevcuttur. Özel üniversiteler çeþitli vakýflar ve dini organizasyonlar tarafýndan finanse edilirler. Özel üniversiteler genellikle maliyet bakýmýndan daha yüklü bir okul masrafý gerektirirler. Yale, Harvard, Cornell gibi köklü okullar birer özel vakýf üniversitesidir.
Yabancý öðrenciler tarafýndan yoðunlukla tercih edilen bir diðer okul gurubu 'community college'lerdir. Ülkemizdeki meslek yüksek okulu seviyesinde bir kurum olan Com.Col.ler, daha çok üniversite öncesi temel eðitim ve iki yýllýk yüksek okul diplomasý verirler. Bu iki yýllýk eðitimin ardýndan dört yýllýk bir okula devam etme imkaný bulunmaktadýr. Ýki yýllýk okullardan alýnan AA veya AA derecesiyle dört yýllýk bir okulun üçünücü sýnýfýndan uygun þartlarýn saðlanmýþ olmasý kaydýyla devam imkaný bulunabilir.
ABD Üniversitelerinde Yýl Sistemi
Dört yýllýk bir lisans programýnýn ilk ili yýlýnda, ilgili sahanýn genel bir hazýrlýk eðitimi verilir. Üniversitenin ilk yýlý freshman, ikinci yýlý ise sophomore olarak adlandýrýlýr. Genel olarak üniversite sistemini ve okuduðu alaný ilk iki yýlda tanýyan öðrenci üçüncü sýnýfta üzerinde çalýþacaðý asýl alana yönelir. Üçüncü sýnýf junior, dördüncü sýnýf ise senior olarak adlandýrýlýr. Üçüncü ve son sýnýflardan öðrenci, danýþmanlarýn yardýmýyla istediði alanda lisans derecesi alabilmek için gerekli dersleri ve kredi miktarýný tamamlayarak mezun olur.
Derslerin sunuluþ biçimlerine göre 'lecture' ve 'seminar' olarark adlandýrýlýrlar. Büyük gruplara sunulan derslere lecture, küçük gruplara spesifik bir konuda verilen derslere de seminar adý verilir. Seminarlarýn bir özelliði de tartýþmaya açýk olmalarý ve öðrencilerin katýlýmýyla gerçekleþmesidir. Bunlara ek olarak öðrecninin danýþman hocasýyla yakýndan çalýþabildiði, özel ilgi alanýna hitap eden ve araþtýrmaya dayalý derslerde vardýr ki bunlara supervised ya da independent study adlarý verilir.
Alýnan derslerin kredi deðerleri ayrý ayrýdýr. Öðrencilerin quarter baþýna ortalama 15 kredi almalarý gerekir. Bu da haftalýk 12-20 saat arasý bir ders demektir. Mezuniyet için gerekli kredi sayýsý her okul ve programa göre deðiþmekle birlikte dört yýl içinde yaklaþýk 180 kredilik bir ders miktarýna tekabül eder.
Lisans (Master) Eðitimi
Lisans eðitiminin ardýndan baþlanan, araþtýrma ve uzmanlaþmaya dayalý olan mastýr prorgamlarý ortalama iki yýl sürer. Spesifik bir alanda yoðun bir çalýþmayý ifade eden mastýr programýnda öðrenciler, akademik çalýþmalarýný tamamladýktan sonra sýnava girerler ve tez yazarlar. Bu süreci baþarýyla tamamlayan öðrenciler, alanýnda mastýr derecesiyle ödüllendirilir.
Doktora Eðitimi
Bir mastýr programýný baþarýyla tamamlamýþ öðrenciler doktoraya devam etme hakký kazanýrlar. Bazen ülkemizdekinden farklý olarak mastýr ve doktora derecesinin birbiriyle kaynaþmýþ olarak verildiði de görülebilir. Ileri seviye uzmanlaþmayý ifade eden doktora eðitmi, genellikle 3-4 yýl veya daha fazla bir süreyi kapsar. Gerekli eðitim ve araþtýrma safhalarýnýn ardýndan doktora tezi yazýlýr. Akademik çalýþmalarýný tamamlayan ve tezini yazan adaylar, ilgili komite karþýsýnda tezinin savunmasýný yapar. Ikna edici bir savunmanýn ardýndan aday doktora derecesiyle ödüllendirilir.
